How to read the price index
Each figure is a typical private “from” fee for a complete course of treatment at London practices in October 2026. “From” means the starting point for a straightforward case: a more complex bite, a longer treatment plan or extras such as additional refinement aligners move the fee up. Central London covers the West End, Harley Street and Marylebone, the City and nearby areas; outer London covers the rest of Greater London. A downloadable copy of the table is available as a CSV file, and you are welcome to cite the index with a link to this page.
Why central London usually costs more
Rents and staff costs are higher in central London, and that shows in most fees. Adult metal braces typically start from about £3,650 centrally against £2,800 in outer London, and the gap is widest for lingual braces: from about £9,870 centrally against £4,800 further out, because every lingual bracket is custom-made and fewer clinicians offer them. Invisalign is the exception, starting from a similar level everywhere (about £2,650 to £2,800), since much of its cost is the aligners themselves. If you are flexible about where you are treated, choose the area you can reach most easily: fixed braces need a check-up every 6 to 10 weeks for up to two years.
Invisalign vs braces: what the numbers show
For a mild to moderate case, aligners and metal braces start at broadly similar fees. Aligners are nearly invisible and removable, but only work if you wear them for about 22 hours a day. Metal and ceramic braces work around the clock and give the most control for complex movements. Lingual braces are the most discreet fixed option and the most expensive. Our guides to braces in London and Invisalign costs in London explain each option in more depth.
Children and teenagers
Under-18s with a significant clinical need may qualify for free NHS treatment through their dentist. For children who do not qualify, or families who would rather not wait, private metal braces start from about £2,500 in outer London and £3,420 centrally. Interceptive (early) treatment, used to guide jaw growth or create space before all adult teeth arrive, starts from about £1,200 to £2,180.
What a good quote includes
Compare total fees, not headline prices. A clear written quote should say whether it includes the consultation and records, all appointments, refinement aligners, breakages and retainers. Retainers matter: a pair of bonded retainers typically adds £450 to £500 if not included, and a replacement removable retainer £110 to £145. Most practices let you spread the fee with a deposit and monthly payments, subject to status.
How we keep the index current
We review every figure each quarter and update the table and the “Updated” date above when fees change, so the index always reflects what patients in London are typically quoted now. Your own fee is confirmed in writing at your consultation, after we have examined your teeth and discussed every suitable option.
